New technologies change the perception of agrarian professions

Agrilab conducted the vocationally oriented meeting with pupils within the education project Agristart.

Children from the different corners of our country visited the innovation lab, created in the National University of bioresources and nature management of Ukraine to know more about agrarian professions.

As found out, imagines of pupils about agronomist job are full of stereotypes, as about old-fashioned and low-paid profession. However, seeing drones, sensor equipment, lab box, computers, which are used in fields nowadays, pupils changed their opinion and professional preferences.

«Agrarian sector – is the second  largest employer in Ukraine and the leader in the growth rate of wages. However, statistics shows that applicants traditionally prefer such specialties as “law”, “philology”, “management”, although in the labor market the supply of such specialists exceeds demand.  And this year, obviously, will not be an exception. At the same time, agrarian companies experience a permanent staff deficit in such specialties as agrochemist, agronomist, mechanical engineer,— noted the curator of the project AgriStart Oleksandr Gayday.

In his opinion, it is important to conduct vocational guidance activities with schoolchildren and to provide them with the advantages, opportunities, and prospects of agrarian specialty.

Reference: AgriStart is a training project created by AgriLab with the aim of increasing the adaptability, innovation of agro education, opening access for students to modern digital equipment and precision farming. In 2017, on the basis of the National University of Bioresources and Nature Management, AgriLab opened an innovation laboratory for students.
